American Beauty Cake
American Beauty Cake is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 2 oz. red food coloring plus 2 oz. water, 3 tbsp. instant chocolate (nestle quik), 1/2 c. shortening, 1 1/2 c. sugar and 2 eggs, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Bursting with flavor in every bite.

Mix the first 2 ingredients together and let stand until needed.
Cream together the shortening, sugar and eggs.
Add coloring mixture.
Add buttermilk and beat 1 minute.
Add flour and salt; beat 1 minute.
Remove from mixer.
Fold in by hand the vinegar and baking soda that has been smoothed together just before adding to cake mixture.
Pour into 2 greased and floured 8-inch cake pans.
Bake at 350Β° for 30 to 35 minutes or until done.
