Preheat oven to 375Β°.
In bowl mix the sugar and fruit.
Pour butter into an 8 x 11-inch dish and put in oven to melt.
Sift the flour, baking powder and salt together and stir in milk to make batter.
Pour batter in melted butter.
Quickly spoon fruit and juices over batter.
Return to oven and bake about 30 to 40 minutes.
