13 Day Pickles is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1 gal. pickles, 1 pt. coarse salt, lumps of alum (size of hickory nut), 5 c. vinegar and 6 c. sugar, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Perfect for family dinners and special occasions.

Wash and split pickles.
Put in jar with coarse salt.
Cover with boiling water.
Let stand 1 week.
Take out soft pickles. Wash others and jar and cover with boiling water.
Let stand 24 hours.
Pour water off and measure pickles.
Put back in jar and each gallon of pickles, take 1 lump of alum, then cover with boiling water.
Let stand 24 hours.
Pour off water and put back in jar.
