Mix first 3 ingredients well.
Add shortening.
Mix well by hand.
Dissolve 2 cakes yeast in 3 tablespoons warm water.
Add this and 1 3/4 cups buttermilk to flour.

When ready to use, roll as for biscuits.
Let rise 1 hour.
