Traditional Apple Butter
Traditional Apple Butter is an easy dinner. Made with 12 to 14 cooking apples, chopped (16 c.), 2 c. apple cider, 2 c. sugar, 1 tsp. cinnamon and 1/4 tsp. ground cloves, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Ideal for meal prep and leftovers taste even better.
Core and chop apples.
Combine apples and cider in a slow cooker.
Cover; cook on low for 10 to 12 hours or until apples are mushy.
Purée in food mill or sieve.
Return purée mixture to cooker.
Add sugar, cinnamon and cloves.
Cover and cook on low for 1 hour.
Will keep several weeks in the fridge or pour into hot jars and seal.
Can also be frozen in freezer containers. Makes 8 cups.
