Taffy Apples
Taffy Apples is an easy dinner. Made with 2 c. sugar, 1/2 c. light corn syrup, 3/4 c. water, few drops oil of clove and red food coloring, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A comforting dish that warms the soul.
Wash and dry 10 eating apples; insert a wooden skewer in blossom end of apple.
Combine sugar, corn syrup and water in top of double boiler; cook over direct heat, stirring, until sugar dissolves.
Add oil of cloves and little red food coloring. Continue cooking without stirring until a drop of mixture tested in cold water forms a hard piece that cracks easily (290Β° on candy thermometer).
Set pan over boiling water.
Dip each apple into syrup quickly.
Remove and whirl apple until syrup covers.
