Sweet Raisin Bread
Sweet Raisin Bread is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1 c. milk, 2/3 c. sugar, 1 1/2 tsp. salt, 3/4 c. margarine and 3/4 c. lukewarm water, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Great for entertaining guests or a cozy night in.
Scald milk.
Add sugar, margarine, salt and cinnamon.
Cool to lukewarm.
Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water; combine with milk mixture.
Add eggs plus egg yolk; mix well.
Add some of the flour, then the raisins and the rest of the flour.
Knead bread dough on a floured surface until it is smooth and does not stick to your hands.
Add extra flour a little at a time, if needed.
Place dough in a greased pan and cover it with a towel.
Allow the dough to rise in a draft-free and warm place until double in bulk.
Remove dough from pan and divide it into loaves.
Place in well-greased loaf pans.
Cover and allow dough to rise again until double in bulk, or just until it rises above the sides of the loaf pan.
Take 1 beaten egg white and brush the top of the loaves.
