Wash cukes.

Put dill on the bottom of a large jar; add cukes and put dill in the middle and on top, also.

Cut garlic and place on the layers.

Add alum.

Mix water, vinegar and salt and pour over pickles.

Let them sit in direct sunlight for 2 days or 3 if you like them more sour.

Keep refrigerated.

Makes 1 gallon.
