Cream 1/2 cup sugar and the shortening.
Add the next 4 ingredients; beat until smooth.
Pour into a greased 8 x 8 x 2-inch pan or baking dish.
Pour onto this batter the berries with the juice and 1/2 cup sugar.
Bake at 375Β° for 45 minutes.
