Sponge Cake
Sponge Cake is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 6 egg yolks, 1/2 c. cold water, 1 1/2 c. sugar, 1 tsp. vanilla and 1 1/2 c. sifted flour, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Perfect for family dinners and special occasions.
Preheat oven to 325°.
Beat egg yolks until thick and lemon colored.
Add water; continue beating until very thick.
Gradually beat in sugar, then vanilla.
Sift flour 3 times; fold in egg mixture, a little at a time.
In another bowl, beat egg whites until foamy.
Add cream of tartar; beat until they form moist, glossy peaks.
Fold into first mixture, turning bowl gradually. Bake in ungreased tube pan at 325° for about 1 hour.
