Spanish Steak
Spanish Steak is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 2 lb. top round steak, cut 2 inches thick, 3/4 c. water, salt and pepper, sliced onions and 1 can solid meat tomatoes, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A classic recipe that has been enjoyed for generations.
Put steak in casserole and add water; bake in a 350Β° oven for about 1/2 hour, basting every 10 minutes.
Remove from oven; sprinkle with salt and pepper and cover with a layer of sliced onions and sprinkle with salt.
Bake 15 minutes longer.
Cover with layer of tomatoes (the solid meats of 1 can of tomatoes will serve).
Bake again 15 minutes.
Remove from oven; sprinkle cheese over the top and place in the oven until the cheese is melted. There will be a thick gravy deliciously flavored with onions and tomatoes and the steak will be very tender.
