Southern Pone Cornbread
Southern Pone Cornbread is an easy dinner. Made with 2 c. meal, 1 tsp. salt, 1 tbsp. grease and cold water (to make into dough), this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A crowd-pleaser that never disappoints.
Sift and measure meal.
Add salt and shortening.
Mix into dough with cold water and let stand a minute, adding more water if necessary.
Shape into small pones and place on hot, greased shallow pan, leaving space so they will not touch.
Put into hot oven for 10 minutes, then reduce to medium.
Bake 30 to 40 minutes.
If gas oven is used, place under blaze until slightly browned, then into oven about center with moderate heat.
Serve with vegetables.
