Sopaipillas
Sopaipillas is an easy dinner. Made with 2 c. all-purpose flour, 1 tbsp. baking powder, 1/2 tsp. salt, 1 tbsp. shortening and 2/3 c. warm water, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Great for entertaining guests or a cozy night in.

Stir together the flour, baking powder and salt.
Cut in shortening until mixture resembles cornmeal.
Gradually add the water, stirring with a fork (dough will be crumbly).
Turn onto a floured surface and knead into a soft ball.
Divide the dough in half and let stand 10 minutes.
Roll each half into a 12 x 10-inch rectangle and cut into 2 1/2-inch squares. (Do not re-roll or patch dough.)
Deep fry a few at a time in fat until golden brown. Drain on paper towels and serve with Honey Butter or roll in cinnamon and sugar.
