Shortcake is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 2 c. sifted flour, 3/4 tsp. salt, 3 tsp. baking powder, 1/2 c. shortening and 3 tbsp. sugar, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Ideal for meal prep and leftovers taste even better.

Cut shortening into flour, salt, baking powder and sugar. Fold in beaten egg, vanilla and milk until all dry ingredients are moistened and folded in.
Bake at 425Β° for 15 minutes.
To serve, cut in half and spoon 4 cups crushed strawberries or other seasonal fruit.
Top with whipped cream.
