Shoo-Fly Pie
Shoo-Fly Pie is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 3/4 c. sifted plain flour, 1/2 c. brown sugar, well packed, 3/4 tsp. salt, 1/8 tsp. nutmeg and 1/8 tsp. ginger, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. An easy weeknight meal that comes together quickly.
Rub together flour, brown sugar, salt, spice and butter to make crumbs.
Dissolve soda in hot water.
Cool and stir in molasses and beaten egg yolk.
Sprinkle half the crumbs on bottom of unbaked pie shell.
Pour in molasses mixture.
Sprinkle remaining crumbs on top.
Bake for 10 minutes at 400°, then 20 minutes at 350°.
