Shoo-Fly Pie
Shoo-Fly Pie is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1 c. unsifted flour, 1/4 c. vegetable shortening, 1 c. boiling water, 1/3 c. dark molasses and 1/2 c. brown sugar, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A classic recipe that has been enjoyed for generations.
Preheat oven to 375Β°. Prepare crumb topping by combining flour, brown sugar and shortening in bowl until mixture resembles course meal.
In another bowl, dissolve soda in boiling water.
Add molasses and corn syrup; blend well.
Pour into unbaked pie shell and sprinkle crumbs evenly over the top.
Bake in the middle of the oven for 10 minutes.
Reduce heat and continue to bake for 35 minutes or until filling is set.
Do not overbake!
