Red Velvet Cake
Red Velvet Cake is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1/2 c. shortening, 1 1/2 c. sugar, 2 eggs, 2 oz. red food coloring and 2 tbsp. cocoa, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. An easy weeknight meal that comes together quickly.

Cream shortening, sugar and eggs.
Make a paste with food coloring and cocoa.
Add to mixture.
Add salt and flour alternately with buttermilk and vanilla.
Fold in soda and vinegar (blend together).
Bake 30 minutes in 350Β° oven in 2 (8-inch) cake pans, well-greased and floured.
Layers may be split to make four. Frost with buttercream frosting or seven minute frosting.
