Red Cake
Red Cake is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1/2 c. shortening, 1 1/2 c. sugar, 2 eggs, 2 oz. red food coloring and 2 tsp. cocoa, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Simple to make and full of bold, satisfying flavors.

Cream shortening, sugar and eggs.
Make a paste of coloring and cocoa.
Add to shortening and sugar.
Add buttermilk alternately with sifted flour and salt.
Add vanilla.
Add soda to vinegar and then add this to other mixture, blending instead of beating.
Bake 25 to 30 minutes in two (8 or 9-inch) greased and floured pans in 350Β° oven.
Cool and split each layer in two and frost.
