Cook raisins until soft; set aside.
Sift together flour and all the spices and salt.
Add brown sugar and mix in well.
Add shortening.
Mix like pie dough.
Add nuts and raisins.
Add sour milk and baking soda.
Mix together.
Bake on a greased cookie sheet at 350Β° for 30 minutes.
Cut into bars.
Thin powdered sugar can be put on while still warm, before cutting.
