Raisin Cake

Cook raisins in 2 cups of water for the cake.
Cream sugar and shortening; add hot raisins.
Sift flour, spices, salt and baking powder together.
Add flour and cold water and beat for 3 minutes.
Add soda dissolved in about 1/2 c. warm water from raisins.
Pour into oblong pan, greased and lined with wax paper. Bake at 350Β° for 50 to 60 minutes.
