Mix the first 3 ingredients; let rise 1 hour, then mix the milk, shortening, sugar and eggs.
Sift the flour with the salt. Add to first mixture; knead well.
Raise to double in size.
Roll out; cut with doughnut cutter.
Fry in hot fat.
Sprinkle with powdered sugar or make a glaze.
Yields 3 dozen.
