Grease and flour two 9 1/2-inch cake pans.
Sift together flour, sugar, baking powder and salt into a large mixing bowl. Add shortening, 2/3 of the milk and vanilla.
Mix at low speed until dry ingredients are dampened.
Beat at medium speed for 2 minutes.
Add the 1/3 milk and eggs.
Beat at low speed until mixed well, then beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.
Pour in pans.
Bake at 375Β° about 25 minutes.
