Sift together the first 7 ingredients and set aside.

Put into a large bowl and blend the next 3 ingredients.

Add prunes.

Add alternately the buttermilk and the above flour mixture.

Bake in 2 (9-inch) layer pans at 350Β° for 35 minutes or until cake springs back when punched.

When cool, cut each layer in two with dental floss, making 4 layers and spread with the following mixture.
