Melt 1 stick butter; set aside.
Mix potatoes, onion and Cheddar.
Mix butter, soup and sour cream.
Pour over potatoes and stir.
Melt 1/2 stick butter and mix with corn flakes.
Sprinkle over potatoes.
Bake in 9 x 13-inch pan at 350Β° for 1/2 to 3/4 hour until potatoes are tender.
