Mix first 5 ingredients well and cook at medium heat, stirring constantly, until sugar is melted or until 290Β° is reached on candy thermometer.
Remove from heat and stir in baking soda until syrup becomes foamy.
Pour over 4 quarts popped popcorn.
Stir until corn is well coated.
Butter hands and press corn into balls.
