Cream sugar and shortening 10 minutes at high speed of mixer. Add eggs, one at a time.
Sift flour; add salt.
Add alternately with milk at a lower speed.
Add butter and vanilla.
Pour into a greased and floured tube pan.
Bake for 30 minutes at 325°, then increase heat to 350° and bake for 25 to 30 minutes.
