Combine sugar, syrup, pineapple and cream in well-buttered heavy saucepan.

Bring to a boil over low heat, stirring constantly.

Continue cooking, stirring occasionally, until candy reaches soft ball stage (236Β°).

Remove from heat; add butter.

Do not stir.

Cool until saucepan feels lukewarm.

Add vanilla.

Heat until candy begins to thicken.

Beat in nuts.

Pour into buttered 8 x 8 x 2-inch pan.

As candy firms, it will lose slick look and become creamy.

Cool and cut.

Makes about 3 dozen pieces.
