Soak cukes in lime water overnight (cover).

Drain and wash 3 times in cold water.

Soak 2 hours in salt water.

Drain and wash 3 times in cold water.

Dissolve alum in warm water.

Add enough cold water to cover cukes.

Add cukes and bring to a boil.

Drain and wash 3 times in cold water.

Mix sugar, vinegar and spices. Add cukes and bring to a boil, turn down heat and simmer 30 minutes.

Pack in hot jars.

Yield: 12 pints.
