Blend shortening and 1/2 cup brown sugar.
Add 1 cup flour and the salt.
Stir in milk.
Pat evenly in lightly greased 9 x 9 x 2-inch pan.
Bake at 325° for about 20 minutes or until light brown.
Beat eggs; add 1 cup brown sugar and vanilla and beat until thick and lemon colored.
Add remaining ingredients and mix well.
Spread over baked crust.
Bake at 325° for 20 minutes until golden brown.
Cool and cut into 36 squares.
