Combine sugar, syrup and water in 4 quart saucepan and boil until spins a hair from the spoon.

Add raw peanuts. When peanuts hot, they will pop and the husks will slide partially off.

Cook until the peanuts reach a golden color or however well parched you like them.

Remove from heat and add vanilla and soda. Stir quickly onto a 13 x 9 x 1/2-inch cookie that has been greased with margarine. Let cool.

Break into pieces.

Store in airtight container.
