In large saucepan, cook sugar, syrup and water until it reaches hard ball stage when dropped in a cup of cool water.

Add peanuts and cook until golden brown.

Add butter and vanilla. Stir until well mixed.

Add soda and stir well.

Do not stir too long after adding soda.

(This is the secret of this candy.)

Pour onto buttered pan or wax paper.

Let cool and break into pieces. Makes 2 pounds.
