Heat and stir sugar, water and syrup in saucepan.
Cook over medium heat to soft ball stage (235°).
Add nuts and salt.
Cook to hard crack stage (305°), stirring often.
Remove from heat; quickly stir in butter and soda.
Pour immediately into 2 well buttered 9-inch pans.
Spread with spatula.
Break into pieces when cool.
Makes 1 1/2 pounds.
