Combine sugar, syrup and water in heavy light colored skillet. Cook, stirring constantly, until sugar dissolves.

Add salt and nuts.

Cook, stirring occasionally, to hard crack stage.

Add butter, vanilla and soda.

Stir to blend.

Pour onto 2 buttered cookie sheets.

While still warm, pull out to desired thinness. When cold, crack into pieces.
