Cream butter and sugar; add eggs, one at a time.
Dissolve soda in milk; add flour alternately with buttermilk to creamed mixture.
Roll nuts, candy and dates in extra flour, then add coconut.
Add to cake batter.
Bake in tube pan at 250Β° for 2 1/2 hours.
Mix 2 cups white sugar, and 1 cup orange juice; pour on cake while hot.
Store cake in pan overnight.
Can also bake in loaf pans.
