Cream butter and sugar.
Add eggs one at a time, beating well. Add 1 cup buttermilk.
Beat well.
Add soda to the other half cup buttermilk.
Add to mixture.
Combine dry ingredients.
Add orange slices, chopped.
Add dates, nuts and vanilla and blend.
Grease and flour tube pan.
Bake slowly 2 1/2 hours at 275Β°.
