Old Fashioned Lye Soap
Old Fashioned Lye Soap is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1 can lye, 3 tbsp. borax, 3 gal. water, 4 1/2 lb. cracklings and 1/4 c. household ammonia, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Ideal for meal prep and leftovers taste even better.

Bring lye and water to a boil in iron kettle.
Add cracklings and boil 2 hours.
When the mixture looks like syrup and all cracklings heat up, add Borax and ammonia.
If you add oil of sassafras, it will have a nice scent.
