Add oats to boiling water; let stand 20 minutes.
Cream shortening and sugar; add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
Add the oats mixture and sifted dry ingredients. Mix thoroughly.
Bake in a greased loaf or square pan for 30 to 45 minutes in a 350Β° oven.
Pour on topping and put in oven for 5 minutes.
