Oatmeal Cake is an impressive dinner. Made with 1 1/4 c. boiling water, 1 c. oats, 1 stick butter or margarine, 1 c. brown sugar and 1 c. white sugar, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Perfect for family dinners and special occasions.

Mix boiling water and oats and let stand for 20 minutes. Cream together shortening and sugar; add eggs and beat well.
Add oats mixture.
Add dry ingredients and mix well.
Bake in a greased sheet pan at 275Β° for 35 to 45 minutes.
While still warm, put topping on cake and return to oven to broil for about 5 minutes.
