Noel Cookie Gems is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1/2 c. shortening, 3/4 c. sugar, 1 egg, 1 tsp. vanilla and 2 1/3 c. flour, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Perfect for family dinners and special occasions.

Combine first four ingredients and set aside.
Sift together next four ingredients.
Add to shortening mixture alternately with sour cream, mixing well.
Shape into 1 1/2-inch balls and roll in nuts.
Place 1 inch apart on greased cookie sheet.
Press thumb in center of each cookie and fill with jam.
Bake 10 to 12 minutes at 400Β° or until lightly brown.
