Mushroom Hot Dish
A hearty buttered-bread casserole layered with mushrooms, peppers, and a custardy egg-and-soup binder. A retro brunch or potluck mainstay.

Butter a 9 x 13-inch casserole.
Place half the buttered bread squares on the bottom of the dish.
Place 1/2 the mushrooms on the bread.
Combine chopped celery, onion and green peppers with mayonnaise.
Spread half of this mixture over mushrooms.
Repeat layers.
