Mom's Cake
A chocolate-chip and marshmallow-topped layer cake brought together with brown sugar and chopped nuts. Old-fashioned, fudgy, and firmly nostalgic.

Cream shortening and sugar.
Beat in whole egg and 2 egg yolks.
Sift flour, baking powder and salt.
Combine 2 mixtures; blend.
Grease and flour 13 x 9-inch pan.
Sprinkle nuts, chocolate pieces and marshmallows over batter.
Beat 2 egg whites very stiff.
Fold in brown sugar.
Spread over cake.
Bake 30 to 40 minutes.
