Mix together the sugar, corn syrup, water and salt in a 1 1/2-quart casserole.

Cook on High 20 to 22 minutes.

While syrup cooks, beat egg whites until stiff peak forms in a large mixing bowl.

Gradually pour hot mixture in a thin stream over egg whites while beating at high speed until mixture thickens and candy starts to lose its gloss.

Beating may require about 15 minutes.

Add nuts and vanilla.

Drop by teaspoonfuls onto wax paper.
