Pour boiling water over dates.
Add soda and let cool.
Add remaining ingredients as listed.
Bake in 2 or 3 (9-inch) pans for 25 to 30 minutes at 350Β°.
When done, the layers will have a dark brown color. Frost with 7 minute frosting.
