Cream butter and sugar together until fluffy.

Stir in vanilla; add eggs one at a time, beating after each addition. Sift together flour, salt and baking soda.

Stir in rolled oats. You can add raisins, coconut or nuts.

Drop by teaspoon about 2 inches apart onto well-greased cookie sheets.

Bake in 350Β° oven for 10 to 15 minutes.

Makes 14 dozen.
