Lee's Hard Candy
Lee'S Hard Candy is an easy dinner. Made with 3 3/4 c. sugar, 1 c. water, 1 1/2 c. white karo syrup, oil of clove, cinnamon or peppermint and 1 bottle food color, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Ideal for meal prep and leftovers taste even better.
Stir first 3 ingredients together over medium heat until sugar dissolves and it begins boiling.
Leave on stove eye and don't stir anymore.
Cook until mixture reaches 310Β° on candy thermometer (about 45 minutes).
Remove from heat and let it settle.
Stir in choice of food color; mix well to avoid streaks.
Stir in flavoring (Lee uses about half the bottle, probably about 2 tablespoons).
Mix well under a vent or fan.
Fumes are very strong.
Sift powdered sugar onto a 4-sided cookie sheet.
Pour mixture over it and let cool completely.
Use handle of knife to break it up.
