Lay-By Slaw is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 1 large cabbage, 1 large green bell pepper, sliced, 1 large onion, sliced, 1 c. sugar and 1 c. white vinegar, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A comforting dish that warms the soul.

Shred cabbage.
Layer cabbage, onion and bell pepper in a large bowl.
Pour 1 cup sugar over top; do not stir.
Boil vinegar, oil, dry mustard, celery seed and salt.
Pour over cabbage mixture.
Refrigerate 24 hours.
Stir before serving.
