Johnny Cake
Johnny Cake is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 2 c. buttermilk, 1 tbsp. sugar, 1 1/2 c. cornmeal, 1.2 tsp. salt and 1 tsp. soda, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. A comforting dish that warms the soul.

Dissolve soda in a little warm water and add to buttermilk; then add sugar and salt.
Mix and beat all together as quickly as possible.
Bake in hot, greased 9 X 14 pan in hot oven about 20 minutes.
Cost, including stove heat = $0.0607 in 1917 terms.
