Dissolve soda in buttermilk.
Sift flour and other dry ingredients together 3 times.
Cream sugar and butter; add eggs and beat well.
Mix jam, nuts, coconut, raisins and vanilla.
Mix all ingredients together.
Place in two 9-inch cake pans.
Bake at 350Β° until done.
