Italian Style Swiss Steak(Makes 4 Servings) is an impressive dinner. Made with 15 oz. lean boneless top round of beef, cut into 4 equal pieces, 1 tbsp. plus 1 tsp. vegetable oil, 2 c. sliced mushrooms, 1/2 c. sliced onion and 1/2 c. sliced carrot, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Preheat broiler.
Broil beef on rack 4-inches from heat 2 minutes on each side.
Set aside.
In large nonstick skillet, heat oil.
Add mushrooms, onions, carrot and celery; cook over medium heat until onions are translucent, about 2 minutes.
Stir in tomato sauce, wine, oregano, garlic powder, pepper, salt and 1 cup water.
Return meat to skillet.
Cover and simmer over low heat 1 hour.
Add green pepper and potatoes.
Simmer until meat is tender, about 35 minutes.
