Icicle Pickles
Icicle Pickles is an moderately easy dinner. Made with 2 gal. cucumbers (cut before measuring), 1 gal. boiling water, 1 pt. salt, 2 tbsp. alum and 1 gal. boiling water, this recipe delivers authentic, satisfying flavors. Perfect for family dinners and special occasions.
Pour 1 gallon of boiling water over cucumbers.
Add salt.
Let pickles stand for 1 week; stir every day.
Drain and add 1 gallon boiling water and alum.
Let stand 24 hours.
Drain and make a syrup of sugar, vinegar and pickling spices (put spices in a white cloth and tie it).
Heat syrup and pour over cucumbers for three mornings.
On the fourth morning, heat syrup and can cucumbers. Seal at once.
